WeatherBug for Google’s Android is ready to roll for T-Mobile G1 users and as you can see from the video above, it was clearly created with the user in mind. The initial launch has been fantastic. As of this writing, WeatherBug is welcoming roughly 500 new users a day with active user hitting totals of 8,000-10,000 individual active users!

WeatherBug for Android highlights:

  • Get weather information for you current GPS location
  • Add a location from Contacts, by touching a point on a map or just start typing
  • View temperature and current conditions touching (long press) any  point on a map
  • Get notified about severe weather alerts even if the application is not running
  • Watch and save camera images from the closest station
  • Share weather information with friends
  • Easy and fast switching between locations using gestures or selecting from a list
  • Multi level forecast from a simple overview to hourly
  • Access to the largest privately owned weather station network in the world.

Application functionality explained:

  • WeatherBug wants full Internet access? Why? This is used to request and download the various forms of content provided to you in the app. Pictures, video and the weather data itself.
  • Why does WeatherBug want to know where I am at via GPS? This functionality is used to determine your current location, so we know what weather data to provide. For those who would rather just enter their zip code, this functionality is available in the settings for the application.
  • Why does WeatherBug need to read my contact data? This gives you the option of importing locations from your address book to save you the trouble of typing in the addresses of friends and loved ones whose weather you are interested in. Your contacts will only be accessed if you choose to. This is an optional feature that is only used should you want to enable it.

WeatherBug wants to make it clear that if you are finding a feature missing you want to see included or perhaps a bug that needs to be addressed – listen up. First ensure that you have the very latest version installed on your T-Mobile G1. Then check again for the missing feature or bug.
