Last week, I had an opportunity to highlight what Canadian farmers are using to keep an eye on the ever-changing weather conditions of their perspective farms. Today, we will be following up with a look at how schools in Canada utilize WeatherBug’s one of a kind weather reporting technology.
Now, one of the most frustrating problems educators were facing was being “in the know” as to whether the current outside conditions would maintain enough to provide a safe atmosphere for younger students during recess. In short, are those kids in danger by being allowed to play outside despite the visible conditions seeming like they were okay? Clearly this was a problem that was not going to be resolved by relying on weather data from many miles way. Like many parts of Canada, the weather can change very rapidly and school administrators need to be kept abreast of these changes as they happen, in real time.
Case in point – Elmwood School in Canada. When their WeatherBug weather station was first installed, the idea was that this would help to tackle safety concerns outlined above. But as time went on, it turned out that by implementing the educational value of the weather data being collected from the WeatherBug weather station on the roof, utilizing the WeatherBug Achieve Program was a natural match as it provided a solid science and math curriculum for Elmwood School school students.
