I suppose I should be happy that I even noticed or remembered to check.  ThermionicEmissions opened for business December 13, 2007.   This means that we’re officially over a year old!

Yes, this blog has survived its first year.   I’m sure there are stats on this somewhere but I’m not searching for them.

Of course one has to define survived.  Any random wag can state that surviving is simply leftystrat continuing to type things for people to ignore.   And that wag might have some small portion of a point (aside from the one on the top of his head).

Since there are no facilities available to tell how many people are reading the blog (at least of which I’m aware), I don’t really have much of an idea how many people stop by.  Comments are a decent indicator (and I don’t have what you’d call a ton of them).

I have some bizarre stories about people finding this blog.  A cousin in another state saw me recently and said he came across the blog in his travels.  Since my cousin doesn’t know me as leftystrat, he could have no idea this was my blog… until he read it.  He said that it couldn’t be anybody else’s writing.  For better or worse, that’s true.

Another friend disappeared into a black hole for a year or five.  When he came back out, he mentioned reading the blog to me; I didn’t say a word.

So people are finding the blog.  Occasionally they’re commenting.

I participate in Google’s ad program, which compensates Chris (Mr. Lockergnome) and me based upon page hits.  I get a few bucks here and there, which is really cool.   I could probably make some larger amount of dollars if I pandered.  If I wrote about whatever the popular keywords or topics are for the sole purpose of drawing readers, I could make more money.   But I won’t.   This is my blog.  I take it as seriously as I take most other things (ranging from not at all on up).  My pledge is to be true to myself.

This does not stop me from using provocative titles.  I love it when my bizarre titles sit in lists of other blogs.  Some stand out rather glaringly, which amuses me to no end.

In any case, I want to thank those of you who come by and read the blog, subscribe via RSS, or say nasty things about it to your friends.  Please keep up the good work.

I’d love to say I have lots of special surprises for the second year of blogdom but let’s be serious: that would involve planning and foresight.  What I can promise you is more of the same and hopefully better.

Or, as the poor people at work have learned: if you want to know the truth about something, ask me.  I will tell you exactly how I feel, regardless of whether or not you want to know.

Happy Emissions.
