In an absolutely shocking turn of events, the Department of Treasury has been ordered to turn over records on how the Handout money that was given to the banks was used.

As if that weren’t enough, Treasury was ordered to hand over the information to the Fox News Network, which filed a Freedom of Information request, resulting in today’s federal court verdict.  Treasury has until March 23rd to comply.

March 23rd?  Do they need all the extra time to fancy up the documents a bit?

And what will Fox do with this important and relevant information?  They have an official prohibition on reporting factual, important, and relevant information.  Maybe they’re just obtaining it so they can sell it to some smaller news organization more concerned with actual news.

As I understand Obama’s new plans, unemployment compensation has been extended and there is a first-time home buyer bonus of eight to ten thousand dollars…

This is so phenomenally stupid that I need to break it up into two parts.

Unemployment Compensation: when I became unemployed, many years ago, I had a fixed number of months of benefits and that was it, job or no job.  I was not receiving benefits because I needed a vacation; I was receiving benefits because I needed a job.  When the compensation (on which I had to pay taxes) ran out, I asked for an extension and was denied immediately.  Apparently the economy wasn’t sufficiently hosed to warrant extensions.

Home Giveaway: Maybe I’m the only one crazy enough to point this out but this idea is akin to stopping corporate theft by giving money to the corporations.  Eight to ten thousand thousand dollars, that do not have to be paid back, for first-time home buyers.

Odd, when I bought my house, I didn’t get a thing, aside from a ten thousand dollar bill from the federally-authorized thieves at the IRS, who screwed up withholding and demanded that I pay for it.

Where is this money coming from?  Due to insane government excess, mostly due to the recent administration, this country has the largest deficit ever.  New math is being invented to deal with the numbers involved in our debt.  I don’t know about you but I didn’t authorize this spending of tax dollars or the tripling of the government’s size.

We don’t have the money to pay for what we already owe, no less whatever this latest incursion into our pockets is going to cost.  Yet no one is asking the important questions about this (except me and nobody cares what I think anyway, especially the cat).

So we have trillions in debt, yet we’re magically going to give out more money for unemployment and home purchases.  Where the hell is it going to come from?

This is the problem with fiat currency: money that is created by say-so and not backed by anything.

Our forefathers are spinning in their graves and our unborn great grandchildren are going to be cursing our graves (if we can afford burial without further government subsidies).

Will the last corporation left with money please turn out the lights?

Snapple is the latest drink maker to dump high fructose corn syrup and go with sugar.  Pepsi will be introducing Pepsi Throwback and Mt Dew Throwback, both with sugar.  We have to figure that Coke will follow, which will produce the first real Coke in decades.

In these horrid times, one has to take pleasure where one can.

UBS Will Release Names Of Americans Hiding Money From IRS

Swiss bank UBS, which has “admitted conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and agreed to pay $780 million to settle a sweeping federal investigation into its activities,” has agreed to release the names of Americans who have been secreting away cash in UBS’ fabled Swiss bank accounts.

What a load of crap.  It would seem that there are a few issues here..

  • the bank violated the trust of its customers by giving out their info
  • $780 million isn’t even a slap on the wrist.
  • What did the US use as leverage to get the bank to bend over?

New bill would force ISPs to retain user data for two years

You know you’re in trouble when the bill is called the Internet Safety Act.  Due to rules governing naming conventions, all bills are named for exactly the opposite of what they do (Patriot Act, anyone?).   This little gem, from Lamar Smith (Nazi-TX) would require ISPs to keep customer data for two years `to keep the internet safe‘ of course.  They really should have used `it’s for the children‘.
