When you right click My Computer, a context menu appears. Click Properties and the System Properties windows will appear. From here, you can make critical changes to system settings. With this in mind, it is a good idea to disable access to the System Properties window so users are unable to make unwanted changes to system settings.

You can disable access to the System Properties window in Vista using the steps described below:

  1. Open the Group Policy Editor.
  2. Navigate to User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Desktop.
  3. In the details pane, enable the Remove Properties from the My Computer context menu policy option.
  4. Restart your computer or type gpupdate /force at the command prompt.
