As a full time Linux user, I spend a lot of time in front of the computer. Updating, exploring, just seeing what makes things tick. But at the end of the day, when I want to catch a movie, for a long time I was limited to my DVD collection. And this was rather limiting for me personally.

Then I heard Netflix was going to begin offering up some of their content instantly, via their Website. Oh happy day I thought, until I discovered that they have opted for the platform limiting Silverlight technology instead of using Flash like Hulu.com, along with the rest of the Internet. This translates into not being able to watch the content I want, despite having paid for the service just like everyone else!

What makes this so funny is the Linux powered device known as the Roku, uses the same technology that Netflix.com is trying so hard to block in their browser identifier! So as a Roku owner, I find myself with a some decisions to make. Continue to supportĀ  Netflix’s poor judgment call of choosing not to use something platform universal like Flash, or bite the bullet and just use my Roku? It is something have been wrestling with for sometime now.
