A single table cell in Microsoft Word can be split into multiple rows or columns. For example, if you previously merged the first row of the table in your Word document, you can easily split the cell into multiple columns. By splitting the table cell in your Word document, you instantly create new table cells.

To split a cell in Word 2002, follow these steps:

  1. Place the cursor inside the cell you want to split.
  2. Click the Table menu.
  3. Click the Split Cells option. The Split Cells dialog box appears.
  4. Click in the Number of Columns text box and type a number or use the up/down arrows to define a number.
  5. Click in the Number of Rows text box and type a number or use the up/down arrows to define a number.
  6. Click OK.
