Metal Gear Solid 4 is a stealth action game and the final game in the Solid Snake Saga telling the story of Solid Snake’s final mission. This game takes places 5 years after the events that happend in Metal Gear Solid 2.
Metal Gear Solid 4 starts you off with an older looking Snake (due to an effect from when he was born) and he’s in the Middle East trying to find some information on Liquid Ocelot and he’s meets up with Meryl (from Metal Gear Solid) that tells him more information on Liquid. After finding Liquid he tries to take him out but Liquid had something up his sleeve and managed to get away. Snake travels to a lot of places around the world like South America, Eastern Europe and even Shadow Moses to try to get more information on what Liquid is doing. When he arrives at Shadow Moses he eventually fights Liquid but even though it seemed it was over Liquid manages to get away once again in a huge boat called Outer Heaven. After taking heavy damage from the fight with Liquid now Snake has to get on Outer Heaven and finish his mission and takes on Liquid one more time but this time he manages to win.
Metal Gear Solid 4 goes to a lot of places even Shadow Moses the place where the first Metal Gear Solid took place and also meets up with a lot of characters from the past games. The controls for this game has changed from the past games not that much so you will get used to it as soon as you play it and there’s also a bunch of extra things that they added like for example a lot of Apple Products can be seen in the game like a iPod (which you can use to listen to music from the Metal Gear Solid series) and a Macbook. Also when you encounter characters that you met in older games you will be able to press the X button to see some pictures of the character from past games. The graphics in this game are one of the best that I have seen recently some scenes really look real especially one scene where a character is making eggs it really looks like they’re real but it’s all from the games engine.
This is a great game to finish up the Solid Snake saga after playing through all the Metal Gear Solid games I’m glad that I took the time to play though them all since this is a great series. This game is really huge and you can tell by when you have to install the game every now and then since they’re split into parts. One of the things that they did add to this game is that Snake has a special costume that looks like the main character from Assassin’s Creed which was really cool to unlock since I have played Assassin’s Creed too. There are a bunch of long cutscenes but I really didn’t mind since I did enjoy watching them and they looked great. So to anyone who’s a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series this is a great game to pick up and play and for those that are new to Metal Gear you can always try out the demo in the Playstation Store. Konami also recently released Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone and iPod Touch which follows the MGS4 story but in a third person shooter view that I will also take a look and give a review later.
