When you open My Computer or Windows Explorer, your folders have the same icon. The only way to determine the specific contents in a folder is by the folder name. I hope that you have used descriptive names so you can easily identify what is inside.

Another option you have for making it easier to know what is stored within a specific folder is to assign a picture to it. Then when you switch to Thumbnail view, the picture you selected will be displayed on the folder to remind you of the contents.

You can assign a picture to a folder using the following steps:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Right click the appropriate folder and click Properties.
  3. Click the Customize tab.
  4. Under Folder Pictures, click the Choose File button.
  5. Locate the image you want to use and click Open.
  6. Click Open.
  7. Click OK.
