This is one of those” needs to happen” type situations. Seriously, it would be so nice to have more background functionality going on. Stuff like instant messaging or even music streaming is not likely going to happen with Apple’s Push technology.
Thankfully, it looks like Apple realizes this and with any luck, we will see this issue being dealt with here in the near future. Even realizing this, it it clear that providing this kind of functionality is something other platforms frankly have more experience in. So Apple doing the same will mean it happening with great care.
What I am happy to hear about as I dive deeper into the issue, is that Apple fully intends on making sure that there is a limit to how many background processes can run in the background. On platforms such as older versions of Windows Mobile, this was always a serious problem. Glad to see Apple is aware of it.
