I think that Facebook is fine for what it is, as a social connector of sorts. But expecting most people to give a rat’s behind about OpenID is about as likely as people reliving their old Microsoft .NET passport accounts. Even worse is the tie-in with our Gmail accounts. I hate cross the web app tie-ins.
The idea of being logged in “automagically” is nothing short of a hassle and a security concern for me. And doing this be default, has given me more reason than ever to avoid using my own Facebook account.
So while Facebook will always have a place in the hearts of most people out there, I suspect it is only a matter of time before we see all of this cross-logging in coming back to bite each of us in the backside. Call it a likely event for the future. I prefer to call it asking for trouble.
