Over the past few weeks, ever since the first reports of the next-gen iPhone potentially offering an FM transmitter, people everywhere have been scrambling around trying to determine why such a transmitter would be included?
Based on this recent piece from Apple Insider, the talk of the town is that radio at some level is in the iPhone’s future. The question of the hour is whether this is purely for listening enjoyment or RDS signals to display artist and title data?
Based on what I have seen and hear, I see no reason why it could not be for both. Assuming for a moment that Apple is ready to embrace HD radio, while knowing little about the technology myself, one could surmise that the inclusion of a radio tuner might allow users to enjoy local HD radio stations. It very well maybe nothing, but I think it is a strong possibility.
