With today’s economy, many people are canceling their TV subscriptions and trying to cut back on the bills. Well The Tech Lunch will show you three ways to catch all your favorite TV shows without breaking the bank.

1.The Internet: Today, most TV networks are streaming their TV shows on the internet. But probably the best sites out there are like Hulu and Fancast since these fancastsites usually combine a lot of material from all sorts of networks and put it up onto one site. In fact many sites such as ABC and CBS offer their TV shows in HD, but of course you’ll need a high speed internet connection to get the full HD experience.

2.Torrents: If your shows aren’t available at any site, then torrents are the answer. With software like ted and TVShows it’s almost impossible to miss your favorite TV shows. With ted you just subscribe to your favorite TV shows. Then, when a new episode comes out, your BitTorrent client downloads it. The same goes for TVShows, but TVShows is only available for Mac.ted

3. DVR: If you’ve ever wanted a TiVo but thought that it was too expensive, well, here’s a secret: you’re staring at a TiVo right now. Yes, it’s your computer. All you have to do is simply add a TV capture card. So here is a good TV card that won’t break the bank: Hauppauge PVR-150 for just $70. If you’re not the kind of person who likes to open their computer and fix something, then there are USB TV capture cards, but they are pretty expensive. Here is a decent USB TV capture card: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1950. After that, just hook up your antenna to the TV card. Then just get some software like MediaPortal and you’re set.

So those are the three ways to catch all your favorite TV shows without breaking the bank. If The Tech Lunch missed any other ways to catch your favorite TV shows, then leave a comment.
