The latest version of the Macintosh operating system is now available for pre-order from various retailers on the Internet. Mac OS X 10.6, otherwise known as Snow Leopard will be one of the cheapest operating systems that has ever been sold. With Microsoft slowly losing market share, Apple’s move to provide a cheaper alternative will only hurt Microsoft even more. Below is a list of the various packages of Snow Leopard that Amazon is offering for pre-order right now –

  • Mac OS X Version 10.6 Snow Leopard (Individual)– This is the single version of Snow Leopard. What makes this package really attractive is the fact that it’s selling for only $29, which is unheard of when it comes to software, let alone operating systems.
  • Mac OS X Version 10.6 Snow Leopard (Family Pack)– This is the multi-user edition of OS X 10.6, allowing for up to five users. Again, Apple is revolutionizing the way operating systems are priced, considering the family version is being sold for $49.00. In comparison to Windows 7, this is over $100 dollars cheaper.

There are various other packages that Amazon is offering right now including the server edition of Snow Leopard, along with other software packages which include iLife and iWork.
