Many people will be changing over to a new operating system soon, or possibly adding a new one. For my house, we will be adding, and dual booting on many more machines.

An easy way to manage the dual boot is to add a drive, but many people don’t have the bucks to do that, or don’t otherwise feel the need for more space. For them, the choice is freeing up space not already allocated or backing up to another medium, and using the space freed. I imagine many people have drives with lots of space, but the entire drive is taken up by one partition.

For someone wanting to run two versions of Windows, this is anywhere from difficult to impossible. It is much easier to partition the drive into smaller partitions, and then let each partition have it’s own Windows. (this might also be a good time to pop out a third partition, for data only, so that any problems, or further changes with operating systems are easily done, and data stays safely out of the way.

An easy way to do this is with a partition manager program. There are free and simple ones, like GPartEd, which will help you do the job if you know the fine details, but many people need that friendly guiding hand, and a program like Paragon Partition Manager will do al that is needed.

The program usually costs about $80, but until Monday, it can be gotten

Free,

in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

Following this link will get you to the website, where you can get all the details.

Each version is about 120MB, so make some space and have fun!
