Despite Apple making it clear that it most certainly did not approve of what Psystar was doing with its OS, the fact of the matter is that clearly Apple is not all that worried about clones. Unlike in the past when Apple did have a problem here, there is a matter of Macs no longer being the company’s bread and butter. No, we can thank the iPhone and iPod for this. Along with growth from iTunes and the App Store.

No, Apple is wise enough to realize that it is not in the OS business. Music, software, and other goodies — sure, this is its playground. But the OS is merely a means to an end to get people using the Mac.

In the future, Apple will certainly fight off any large scale cloning operations. But I really doubt it will bother much with the various hobbyists that choose to run OS X on PCs.
