Yesterday, I wrote about the company PNY that has begun selling their various models of thumbdrives (or flash drives) with specified movie titles as downloads, to increase sales. Competitor AMP has the same idea, but they are putting the information on the drives upfront.

While not as electrifying as a movie title, many people will like the idea of getting something extra for their money, and we all know the truism about music and the savage…

TechConnect gives the specifics –

Bringing more sweet melody in our lives, Active Media Products has teamed up with pianist Ken Elkinson to release a series of flash drives that are pre-loaded with six original Elkinson piano solos in MP3 format. Coming in 2, 4, 8 and 16GB capacities, the drives measure 40 x 14 x 5 mm, have a Statue of Liberty hologram, are waterproof, feature a USB 2.0/1.1 interface and deliver transfer speeds of up to 30 MB/s.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with AMP on this product,” said Ken Elkinson. “These six songs [Opal, Afterglow, Orchid, Cue, Revelry and Link] are an excellent cross-section of my music that I picked myself.”

The 2, 4, 8 and 16GB Ken Elkinson flash drives have started to become available on Amazon and are priced at $9.95, $15.95, $19.95 and $39.95, respectively.

Those who remember back to the days of rampant floppy disk usage must remember that many times, in a bid to sell more disks, various manufacturers would include a program on a floppy, something that would be useful to many, and encourage the dedication to that brand.

This is no different, and many might choose the AMP models, as PNY has never been really clear on their warranty policies. The side benefit of being waterproof is very nice as well.
