Bing is not a total disaster. That is certain. On the other hand, I doubt that the line being given by the latest ad that Microsoft has running is true (at least not under the conditions where we would call things equal).
The Digital Inspiration site has an article showing the Microsoft produced clips where claims are 10 of 15 people who tried Bing switched to it permanently.
Do you believe it? I am not convinced after the tests I ran back in June, but we do know these things are not static. Bing could have gotten better, but on the other hand, careful choice of the ‘testers’ could produce skewed results.
I know I’ll be trying it again, but I will admit I already have a bias, as I am not at all happy about the Microsoft-Murdoch dealings, and I don’t believe that paying people to move away from something is fair competition. Money can’t buy everything, no matter what George Steinbrenner tells you.
Perhaps the unkindest cut of all is the fact that the clips are being made available on YouTube. Using Google bandwidth to fuel the controversy, and pull users away is low.
