In Word 2007, there is a menu item available from the Office button called Prepare. Options available under the Prepare menu item are there to help you finalize your document. One such option is ‘Run Compatibility Checker’. When you select this option, Word analyzes your document to check for any compatibility issues with earlier versions of Word. This ensures that any recipients using earlier versions of Word are able to read the document.

To run the Compatibility Checker:

  1. Within Word, click the Office button.
  2. Point to Prepare and click Run Compatibility Checker.

When the Compatibility Checker completes, it presents a summary window listing all the occurrences of compatibility issues found.
