As you are working on your document, Word automatically saves a temporary copy of it in the event that you run into computer problems. This is referred to as AutoRecover.

When Word saves an AutoRecover file, it is saved in the same directory as the original document. You can have Word save your AutoRecover files to a specific location. This requires you to modify the AutoRecover location as outlined below.

  1. Within Word, click the Microsoft Office button.
  2. Click Word Options.
  3. The Word Options window appears. Click the Save option.
  4. In the AutoRecover File Location box, type in the path to the folder in which you want to autorecover files saved.
  5. Click OK.
