The days of complimentary amenities on American Airlines are now just a fond memory. American Airlines have a new means of charging a few dollars:
“… The Fort Worth-based carrier said Monday that it will take the free red blankets out of its coach section on all North American flights as of May 1. On flights of more than two hours, passengers in coach can buy a blanket and pillow for $8.”

This saves the airlines from cleaning and laundry bills, which is an additional saving. Undoubtedly, there are focus groups being conducted to see what else can be a ‘charged service’ for the airlines. Paid rest rooms for airlines may not be out of the question.
It is a ‘captive consumer audience’.
