Ever wonder how to format fractions in Word? In some cases, Word formats fractions automatically (i.e. ½). However, for less common fractions, you may be left with a inconsistent formatting (i.e. 7/8).
One way around this is to change the font characteristics of the characters as described below.
- Type in a fraction, such as 5/6.
- Select the numerator. From the Format menu, click Font. Click Superscript. Click OK.
- Select the denominator. From the Format menu, click Font. Click Subscript. Click OK.
- Replace the slash with a different “slash-type” symbol, if desired.
