At some point in time we all suffer from the workplace blues. Whatever the reason, once the blues settle in it’s difficult to stay motivated. When you feel the blues coming on, you have one of two choices. You can sink further into the feeling which can have negative consequences on your career. Or you can combat the blues and re-motivate yourself as quickly as possible.

Notice I said that YOU can re-motivate YOURSELF. Motivation is something that comes from within which means you are the only one who can motivate yourself. If you’re waiting for someone else to do it for you, you’ll be waiting for a very long time.

There are many different ways that you can overcome the workplace blues. For example, adding regular exercise to your day is a great way to energize your body and brain. Additionally, shaking up your daily routine or even re-arranging your office may be all that’s necessary.

Personally, when I feel the blues coming on, I tend to look for projects or initiatives outside of my job description that will offer me a new challenge. Work that is outside of my regular routine and potentially a stretch of my skill set is enough to re-motivate me. Soon enough, my workplace blues are long gone.
