It seems like every time I turn around I find another phishing scheme, a new site to circumvent the US DMCA (music pirates), or worse coming about with .ru or .info domains. While there appears to be little being done about the spammy .info domains, there is progress being made with .ru apparently.

What is shocking is how heavy handed the approach actually is with the handling of the .ru domains. Passports or showing your papers? Wow, this sounds like the Russia of the 20th century to me! Besides, this is not really addressing the issue of what happens once a domain is registered and then abused.

But hey, at least we are finally seeing some evidence that the Russian government is working to deal with the immense problems of cyber crime coming from its neck of the woods. Better late than never?
