So far, the Android OS has succeeded bigtime since the Motorola Droid’s arrival on the Verizon network, growing to own 24% of the smartphone OS market. Now there is yet another rumor that recently hit the newswire about an iPhone model being designed for the Verizon network. It makes me wonder if Android can continue to grow if iPhone ends up being a choice on the largest carrier in the United States.

Android is pretty much the default option for people seeking a new smartphone on the Verizon network. That will obviously change if iPhone is added to the arsenal. I can’t imagine many average consumers who are new to smartphones picking an Android phone over the iPhone. I’m not saying iPhone is the better phone, but for most people, it’s all about the Apple name and being able to say “I have an iPhone!”
