The political magazine New Republic will be putting up a $30 paywall starting tomorrow, April 7, 2010. Though some content will remain free — blog posts, online columns, and some special features — most content will be for pay only. The online portion of the magazine has over 1 million unique visitors every month and has increased its traffic by 30% during the last quarter. In addition, the magazine claims to have increased its ad revenues by threefold.

Editor Frank Foer said in the release: “Our long-form journalism is the product of intensive reporting and extensive editing, an incredible investment of time and resources. When it appears in print, we put a price tag on it-and we’re committed to doing the same online.”
