The company has hit a userbase number that many would never have believed. Some because it is so large, some because it is so low. Nonetheless, Opera the claim is made that 100 million people are using a browser that has the name Opera.
The news comes from TechConnect this morning –
Opera Software has today proudly announced that there are over 100 million people all around the world using one or more of its browsers. The Opera userbase includes 50 million people who surf the web with Opera for Windows, Mac and Linux, 50 million individuals with Opera Mini-equipped phones, plus all those running Opera on other platforms (Android, Windows Mobile, Nintendo Wii, TVs and set-top boxes).
According to the Norway-based company, the year-on-year growth of the Opera desktop browser passes 30%, measured from March 2009 to March 2010, while Opera Mini grew 150% from January ’09 to Jan ’10.
"Opera’s record growth shows that we are on the right track, and that as user needs grow, we are growing right along with them," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. "Opera for Desktop delivers the fastest browsing experience on the planet, with a visionary approach to features and a user-friendly design."
Opera currently claims to have the fastest Windows web browser with Opera 10.51 (also coming for Mac OS and Linux) so you want to give it a try and see what it’s all about.
Some who read that 30% increase in Opera desktop may wonder why it disagrees with some of the quoted figures in other publications. I believe it has to do with the United States usage versus world usage. Opera is, as Firefox also, much more popular in Europe and other parts of the world.
