The head of the Mozilla Corporation, John Lilly, will be stepping down from the job as CEO. He has made the decision to move on to work at Greylock Partners. Lilly has been employed at Mozilla for over 5 years, starting out as Vice President of Business Development. He took a job as COO for the company in 2006 and then went for top spot in 2008.

Reports state that Lilly will stay on Mozilla’s Board of Directors and will not depart from Mozilla until the company finds a replacement. He left this message to Mozilla:

I’ve always been a startup guy at heart–Mozilla was originally going to be a quick volunteer effort for me, but quickly turned into a full time job, and at the beginning of 2008 turned into the CEO job that I have now. I’ve really been missing working with startups, and want to learn how to invest in and build great new startups, so am planning to join Greylock Partners as a Venture Partner once we transition here.
