I think that AT&T might be reaching a bit. With news of Verizon finally offering the iPhone in September, there is going to be a mad rush to get people locked into new AT&T contracts as quickly as possible. No question about it. And the big seller this time around will be Walmart as it seeks to deliver a new crop of people who might have not been able to buy a new iPhone previously.
There is no question the $97 price point for a 3GS is going to be attractive. Well, that is until the next iPhone is released and we see iPhone envy taking its toll once again. With Android outselling the iPhone right now, due to its multiple service nature, it’ll be interesting to see how things play out for Apple. Something tells me it’s not Apple that we ought to be watching, though. No, it’s going to be the carriers offering the phones with ridiculous contracts.
Don’t misunderstand me, I don’t have a problem with the iPhone. Heck, I own one and it does what I need it to do. But I’d drop it in a cold minute for a new Android phone on Verizon. Again, not that Verizon is better, per se. Rather its network coverage is VASTLY better in the areas I frequent. Too bad I’d have to buy a new phone to make such a move though. Well, that and I still have a chunk of time with my current AT&T contract and the family plan that goes with it.
