If you have XP applications, you don’t have to worry about the applications not working under Windows 7. Any of those XP applications that don’t run under Windows 7 can be run in an emulated XP environment using Windows XP Mode.

Windows XP Mode is a virtual PC image of Windows XP Service Pack 3 that you can run on Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise editions. Furthermore, Windows XP Mode includes additional functionality that Virtual PC images do not:

  • Application running in XP Mode can access the Windows 7 network connection and USB devices
  • Applications in XP Mode can run in Seamless Mode which means the applications appear to run natively within Windows 7.
  • Applications running in Seamless Mode have access to the Windows 7 known folders
  • Cut and paste is enabled between the Windows XP Mode applications and those in Windows 7

You can download Windows XP Mode for free from Microsoft’s Web site.
