When you open Windows Explorer from the Start menu, it always opens to the same folder. For example, in Windows 7, Windows Explorer opens to the Libraries folder.

If you prefer, you can configure it to open to a folder of your choice. For example, you can have Windows Explorer open to the Computer folder. You can do so by editing the properties of the Windows Explorer shortcut.

To accomplish this, following the steps described below.

  1. Open the Start menu and type Windows Explorer in the Search field.
  2. Right-click the first result and click Properties.
  3. From the Windows Explorer Properties dialog box, type the following command in the Target field: %SystemRoot%explorer.exe /root,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}.
  4. Click OK.
