Google has finally accepted that its collaboration approach with Google Wave is not catching on with users at all. It is putting a halt to all development of the system.

“Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked,” Senior Vice President Urs Holzle said in the blog post. “We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site, at least through the end of the year, and extend the technology for use in other Google projects.”

Many users, myself included, logged into Google Wave when we received the invite and said “Now what?” To me, Google Wave just seemed like another way to chat with a person. I tried to like it, but none of my friends used it, so it was about as useful as MySpace is these days.
