This is the first book of a new series that combines both a political and religious thrilling adventure. The book itself provides us with a realistic set of scenarios that builds excitement for the reader when a foreign power attempts to launch a first strike attack against the city of New York. The authors successfully present to the reader a host of characters that are very real and also believable.
The main character of the book, who becomes our hero, owns a privately controlled company that has developed a technology called Return To Sender [RTS], that is still in its experimental stages. The secret technology can lock onto incoming missiles and return them to the original launching point. So when a North Korean attack ship launches the attack because of failed communications, the RTS system is used and successfully turns back the attacking missiles and destroys the ship that has launched them.
When I read how this man was able to save New York City from destruction I applauded him as a hero. But we soon learn that there are those in the U.S. Senate that feel differently about using the technology and appear to side with the North Korean attackers. These corrupt political forces demand an explanation from whoever authorized the use of this technology and for what purpose. As unbelievable as it is for the reader to accept this as being possible, the authors draw a picture of a politically corrupt system that mirrors what we are facing today: a disgruntled public that no longer trusts their elected officials and for good reason.
We are also drawn into the scenario in which the Internet dominates how all information is distributed to the public. In previous regulatory legislation we learn how the government has approved that only a handful of major media outlets provide all of the news and opinion information that the public receives.
In addition, there appears to be only one cell phone provider left, and the news applications are all limited to the remaining approved news agencies. We further learn that the U.S. has joined an internationally controlled government similar to the one world government that is predicted in the bible. To make matters even worse, foreign countries have purchased all of the U.S. based companies that provide the news, and will not permit any unflattering opinions of their country, or those of their friends, to be sent via the one remaining cell phone carrier or on the Internet itself.
I found the book eerily realistic and very disturbing. Could we allow our country to fall into a situation in which a few control everything we read, hear, or see? Unfortunately the answer to that question is a resounding yes.
