There should be an image here!It was fun while it lasted. Come to think of it, it seems like only yesterday when I was hitting the forums and review sites, trying to determine which card (NVIDIA vs ATI) would bring me the most bang for my buck.

Today this history is being put to pasture as it were. ATI, as a brand, is going to its grave while AMD aims to compete with NVIDIA through its own branding. Despite what some might think, this could prove to be a smart move.

Others, however, have pointed out that we may see AMD become a victim of mind share branding in that, when people think of its brand, they are not thinking video card like they were with the letters ATI. It’s difficult to say how all of this is going to end up working out, but one thing is for sure: this is the end of the line for ATI.

What do you think? Does any of this really matter if AMD can produce a decent video card? I tend to find myself in this camp, but am interested in what my fellow Gnomies might have to say on this matter.
