Many people disliked the Ribbon when it was introduced in Office 2007. I have to admit, it took several weeks for the Ribbon to grow on me. Given that we’re creatures of habit, it was likely not the Ribbon itself that I disliked but more the fact that something changed.
The Ribbon is back in Office 2010; however, it’s now customizable, which I think is great! For example, you can remove commands, group commands differently, create new tabs on the Ribbon, and so on.
To start customizing the Ribbon:
- Open any Office 2010 application.
- From the File menu, click Options.
- Select Customize Ribbon.
In the details pane, use the Add and Remove buttons to customize the commands available on the Ribbon. Create new tabs and new groups using the buttons below the list of commands. In addition, you can restore default settings and import/export the settings to another instance of Office 2010.
