Personally, I find AutoPlay a bit annoying. When I insert a CD, Windows opens a window with a bunch of information that I really don’t care about. My preference is to insert a CD and navigate to what I’m looking for.
AutoPlay is simple to disable. The only catch is that it requires you to make a change to the Windows Registry, as described below.
- Open the Registry Editor.
- Navigate to the following registry key: HKLM Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Policies Explorer.
- Create a new DWORD value and name it NoDriveTypeAutoRun.
- Set the value to 000000FF.
You can always re-enable AutoPlay by deleting the DWORD value you created in step 3.
