There should be an image here!Once you find the perfect color in PowerPoint, you can create different shades of the same color using the transparency setting. Why would you want to do this? If you apply the perfect shade to the slide background then add a text box to the slide, the default background of the text box may clash with the slide’s background color. This is where you can use the transparency setting. By changing the transparency setting for the text box, you can create a different shade of the background color.

To accomplish this in PowerPoint 2007:

  1. Right click the text box (or placeholder) and choose Format Shape.
  2. From the Colors and Lines tab, in the Fill section, choose White from the Color drop down.
  3. Change the Transparency setting. To create a lighter shade, decrease the setting; to create a darker shade, increase the setting.
  4. Click OK.
