Hibernation is similar to putting your computer to sleep only it saves the state of all open documents, files and folders in a file on your hard disk and then shuts down your computer. When you bring your computer out of hibernation, your computer returns to the state it was in when it when into hibernation.
To enable or disable hibernation in Windows 7:
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run window.
- Type cmd and press Enter.
- At the command prompt window, type powercfg –h on and press Enter. This enables hibernation on your computer.
- To disable hibernation, repeat steps 1 and 2. At the command prompt window, type powercfg –h off.
