It is very rare that I give Microsoft points for doing something logical or entertaining with their marketing efforts. And with the exception of their older add with the little girl using the photo editing software at age 3 or 4, I haven’t been all that impressed for sometime. Flash forward to today and I see that Microsoft is hitting the nail on the head by demonstrating ease of use with their “To the cloud” adverts. These adverts demonstrate the value behind using Windows Live and how it can be applied to mundane hassles in a regular day.

The fact that we see these are something to where a geek is not the going thing, is a plus in my honest opinion. Let’s face it, being a geek is kind of a hit or miss sort of thing. And when using mainstream media, you kind of need to hit it on the head with the mainstream user. Unfortunately the video found in the article linked above, sucks. The better adverts advertising a much simpler message will¬†definitely¬†attract the home user. I can only speculate that some moron tried to cram a three step marketing campaign into a single commercial and this is what we have to show for it.

Come on Microsoft, we all know that this commercial was MUCH better. Short, point made and we move on. That is why the commercial below works and the one above, blows.

Can you see the difference? Value is immediately presented in the Family Photo advert vs the mess that is the other video. Too much, too boring, who cares. All of the text mindlessly scrolling across the screen reminds me of that HORRID marketing campaign with Vista and “simplication.” Folks, there was nothing simple about it.
