Sometimes when you install an application, it completely takes over because the application installs itself as the default application for specific files. Fortunately, it’s easy to control which applications open certain types of files on your computer. For example, if you have multiple payers installed, you can control which application opens and plays your music. You can accomplish this using the Set Default Program option. By setting a program as the default means the program becomes the default to open all of the file types it’s capable of opening.
To set the default program in Windows 7:
- Click Start and click Default Programs.
- Click Set your default programs.
- Select the appropriate program and click Set this program as default.
- Click OK.
