The initial target for the amount of iPhones to be shipped during the first quarter of 2011 has been raised from 19 million to just over 20 million. The report coming from a Taiwan-based component supplier (via DigiTimes) gets even more specific, saying that Apple plans to ship between 14 and 15 million WCDMA units and 5 to 6 million CDMA phones.
If the numbers above are true, this would be a major increase from the estimated 4th quarter results for Apple’s iPhone, which is sitting at close to 15.5 million units sold. A significant jump to say the least, especially considering that the estimates are coming after the Christmas shopping season.
Rumors have been floating around for quite some time now that Apple would add Verizon to its list of carriers. With that said though, there has been no statement by Apple or Verizon commenting on the possibility.
