Often times when I create a document, I forget to add in the page numbers. Instead of trying to remember, I created default page numbering for all my documents by editing the Normal template.

  1. First, open the Normal.dotm template by click the Microsoft Office button and clicking Open.
  2. Click Templates and double click the Normal.dotm file.
  3. From within the Normal.dotm file, click the Insert tab.
  4. Click Page Number and choose the location and format for the page numbers.
  5. Close and save Normal.dotm.

Now any documents will use the page numbering you specified.
