Love Twitter and your BlackBerry, too? Today BlackBerry has finally launched its updated version of Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones application. This version has been tested for the past six weeks in a closed beta test, and the official new 1.1 version of Twitter for Blackberry now features the ability to add location to tweets with geotagging. The new version of Twitter for Blackberry also features push @mentions along with new design features.
In addition to push notifications, Twitter for Blackberry now features #Topic Autocomplete and Twitter for BlackBerry users can now include Tweet Location which allows BlackBerry users to pinpoint location in a neighborhood and include it your Tweets. If other users have this enabled, you can view others’ locations too. To enable this, BlackBerry says on their blog that “all you need to do is select the location icon that appears in the bottom right corner of their tweet and a map view will open, allowing you to see where they were when they submitted that Tweet.” Direct Messages have also been renamed “Messages” to match Twitter’s new desktop app. They’re displayed in a chat-style format so users can see an entire conversation under the message tab.
Additionally, v1.1 of Twitter for BlackBerry features refreshed branding, with updated graphics that reflect the new look of the Twitter brand and a streamlined layout of the Add Photo and Add Location icons on the Home screen, according to BlackBerry’s blog. BlackBerry users will also notice that when you retweet something, it will appear in the Home timeline as ‘Retweeted by You’, so you are quickly alerted that your Retweet was sent successfully. New language support was also added for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Polish, Czech and Thai.
The new version v1.1 will be available for download in BlackBerry App World over the next 24 hours, so if you don’t find the new version of Twitter for Blackberry listed immediately in Blackberry App World, sit tight.
