Not all that many years ago, I found that it was easier for me to maintain a simple P.O. Box vs. having most mail sent directly to me. The problem with this approach as a small business owner was having so much junk mail and other solicitations being mixed in with important postal mail. Despite the success of fax machines and email at the time, some things still rely on using the postal mail system. So finding a way to sort all of this out was, to say the least, a pain in the butt.
Let someone else do it
Recently I came across a service that I think looks really promising. For a fee, you can have your postal mail sent to it and it will sort and scan each item for you. Best of all, things can be sorted and postal mailed to you later on if you prefer. It also allows for check deposits and automatic management rules. It’s a lot like Microsoft Outlook for your USPS mailbox.
The company is called Earth Class Mail and it offers what could be a very attractive ROI for your postal mail handling. You have to admit the idea of managing your incoming postal mail from an email inbox like interface, complete with full color scans of what everything is and whether it’s to be opened or not, allows for a powerful level of control.
Not just for small businesses
If you happen to be someone who does a lot of traveling, perhaps being the kind of person who just doesn’t want to deal with their postal mail in person any longer, then perhaps Earth Class Mail is for you. The obvious advantage here is that you’re able to enjoy the aspects of your mail without the crap that you can do without. I personally find the fee to be more than I’d pay at this time based on my mail received, but I haven’t ruled out the idea of using Earth Class Mail in the future.
Is that a mailroom in your pocket?
So there you have it. A simple, effective method to outsource your existing mailroom and save a few bucks along the way. It’s a great deal for businesses, and an interesting alternative for world travelers. If you have the extra funds for the fee, plus a Web browser, then using Earth Class Mail might be just what you’re looking for. It beats dealing with the usual junk mail routine!
