It was 85 years ago today that James Alexander Dewar abandoned his dreams of building a whisky empire and decided to set his sights on something more timeless: the golden sponge cake with creme filling that we know and love today as the Twinkie.

While we examine five ways to observe National Twinkie Day, just remember that there are no rules saying you can’t wash down a bite of your Dewar’s Twinkie with a glass of Dewar’s whisky. Even if I totally made up the “fact” that the two are at all related.
