Need An Extra $1,000? Enter The ‘Dangers of Debt Image Contest’

When I saw this contest, I ignored it completely. Not because I can’t use the $1,000 first place prize, but because I cannot draw. My least favorite game is Pictionary. Everything I draw either looks like a horse or a horse. :-)

But for those of you who have the artist flare for drawing, you may wish to take a look at the contest.

Grand Prize

The Grand Prize winner will be the entry with the most online votes and will be awarded $1000

2nd Prize

Three (3) Second place winners will each receive a one year online subscription to Consumer Reports Magazine

Contest Instructions

Create your own original image (either photo, drawing, collage or any visual medium) illustrating the dangers of credit card debt faced by millions of Americans. Encourage your friends and family to vote for your submission. The entry that receives the most votes wins $1000!

Of course only original works can be submitted, so no cheating. Only residents of the U.S. may apply. Contest starts on January 10, 2010 and ends on February 9, 2010.

You may enter the contest at the Facebook link below.

How Many Big Mac Sandwiches Do You Need To Eat To Win A Monopoly Prize?

First, a disclaimer. I do not know how accurate this web site is, but it is fun just to compute the odds and cost for winning a prize in McDonald’s new 2010 Monopoly Game. Also,  I rarely go to McDonald’s so I haven’t a clue how many Big Mac sandwiches anyone eats just to play the game. With that being said, there is a website where you can enter a prize and see how much you would have to eat in order to win.

In one recent article it stated that:

If you’ve become addicted to McDonald’s Monopoly promotion, you may wonder roughly how many Big Macs you’ll have to eat until you can realistically hope to win a major prize

The number crunchers at Eat With A Spork has some comforting news for you, though. Using the site’s calculator, reader Mike determined you’ll only need to eat 476,991 Big Macs in order to expect to win $500 whopping dollars in prize money.

You can check out how many Big Mac Sandwiches you would need to eat in order to win a prize here.

If you have won a prize playing McDonald’s 2010 Monopoly game, let us know.

Netflix $1,000,000 Prize For Improved Recommended Page

In an effort to improve what Netflix recommends to their clients for their next movie rental, Netflix is offering a $1,000,000 prize. The movie rental giant is in the process of assessing current leaders and the improvements they are attempting to make.

The leader board which changes frequently is located on the Netflix site. However, you must be a member to view the prize results page.

The goal seems to be to increase the recommendations page by at least 10%. I rarely look at the recommendations and usually just order the movies I believe are good and which are rated near 4 star or above.

Applications Being Accepted To Live On Mars

In a joint effort between Google and Virgin airlines, an adventure is being planned which will be known as Virgle, for the colonization of Mars. On the Virgle website there is a section for you to apply to be part of this endeavor and to make space history at the same time. Details of the plans are available including a FAQ page that defines what the project hopes to complete by the year 2014.

On the Virgle site it states:

For thousands of years,

the human race has spread out across the Earth, scaling mountains and plying the oceans, planting crops and building highways, raising skyscrapers and atmospheric CO2 levels, and observing, with tremendous and unflagging enthusiasm, the Biblical injunction to be fruitful and multiply across our world’s every last nook, cranny and subdivision.

An invitation.

Earth has issues, and it’s time humanity got started on a Plan B. So, starting in 2014, Virgin founder Richard Branson and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be leading hundreds of users on one of the grandest adventures in human history: Project Virgle, the first permanent human colony on Mars.

If you can successful explain why you want to live on Mars you could potentially win a seat on the space craft or most likely win a fabulous prize. Though the specifics of what the prize may be is not mentioned.

Comments welcome.
Full details can be found here.

PS Please note that this was posted on Aprol 1, 2008. :-)
