Shutter Island – This Is A Must See Movie

My wife and I ventured out Friday evening for some dinner and a movie and took a journey to Shutter Island. You may have seen the promos on the tube which shows Leonardo DiCaprio in 1950s garb looking like a detective of police. It actually turns out that he is a U.S. Marshall.

The first question that gets answered fairly quickly is exactly what is Shutter Island? We soon learnĀ  that the island houses a hospital for the criminally insane. The lawmen have been summoned since one of the hospital’s insane residents has gone missing from what we learn is a locked room. The psychiatrists and guards at the hospital raise the suspicions of the lawmen because of their evasive answers to questions. The island is hit by a huge storm, during which time, the lawmen are just as much prisoners of the hospital as the patients. But that is enough aboutĀ  the story line since I do not want to spoil the movie for you.

The acting is very, very good. I am not a huge DiCaprio fan, though I enjoyed his performance in Titanic and also The Aviator. But in this roll he is excellent. The supporting cast is also brilliant with Ben Kingsley’s portrayal as a head shrink — very convincing. But what makes the entire movie worth seeing is that it smacks of something Alfred Hitchcock would cook up, leaving the viewer in for a surprising treat.

Using the Netflix rating system, I would give this movie 3.5 stars and recommend your seeing it. Enjoy.
