Warner Brothers Hiring Anti-Piracy Interns To Spy On Pirates

What better way to find pirates than to hire students who are proficient in file sharing. Warner Brothers is recruiting students as interns to locate and spy on pirates in an attempt to shut down their operations. It seems that these interns will be setting up accounts at BitTorrent sites, develop scanning bots, make purchases to trap sellers and other tasks as Warner Brothers deems necessary. This is an effort to locate pirates and prosecute them for piracy.

In a recent article it further states that:

The intern will further have to scour the Internet for illegally posted Warner Bros. and NBC Universal content and gather intelligence on the sites that offer these pirated goods. One of the more boring tasks listed in the job description is the sending of takedown requests and infringement notices to sites and users.

The lucky student who gets the job will receive a £17,500 salary for the 12 month internship that starts July 2010. Applicants are required to study a degree in a computing related discipline and programming experience with Java or JSP and PHP, Perl or Python is seen as a bonus.

We encourage all eligible TorrentFreak readers to apply for this exciting internship and provide us with regular updates on Warner Bros’ anti-piracy efforts. You have to be quick though, the vacancy closes on March 31.

If this is successful one would expect that other movie studios may follow Warner Brothers lead. It would seem that Warner Brothers is serious about catching those who pirate their movies and sell them to others. It will be interesting to see how well these interns do and if the effort does stem the flow of illegal movies being sold on the Internet.

Comments welcome.

New Clint Eastwood DVD Set, Minus Some Of The Oldies and Goodies

Warner Brothers is releasing a 18 DVD set of Clint Eastwood movies covering the actors 35 year relationship with the company. In fact the DVD set is titled ‘Clint Eastwood: 35 Films 35 Year’. Here are a list of what movies are included in the set:

We get Dirty Harry Clint (all five of the Smith & Wesson-wielding cop dramas are included here), Western Clint (“The Outlaw Josey Wales,” “Unforgiven”), War Movie Clint (“Kelly’s Heroes,” “Letters From Iwo Jima”), Grumpy Old Man Clint (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Gran Torino”) and even, um, Orangutan-Friendly Clint (“Every Which Way But Loose,” “Any Which Way You Can”). As a definitive career retrospective, a few gaps remain. The set omits the three Sergio Leone spaghetti Westerns that kick-started Eastwood’s film career, his directorial debut (“Play Misty for Me”) and “In the Line of Fire,” one of his biggest box office successes, because none of them were distributed by Warner Bros.

Well I don’t know about you, but those spaghetti westerns Clint Eastwood made were pure classics. I still recall the first one I saw which made me a Clint Eastwood fan many years ago. But the article from the Washington Post did not have a list of all of the movies that were being included. In fact there is some discrepancies on pricing, which the Post stated was $179.98 for the set and also how many disks are included.

I went over to Amazon and found this list of movies on 19 disks for only $129.99:

WHERE EAGLES DARE(1968) – starring Clint Eastwood, second billed to Richard Burton.
A complex WWII film about soldiers on a mission to raid a castle and retrieve a captured officer.
KELLY’S HEROES (1970) – starring Clint Eastwood
A different WWII story. A group of soldiers are out to find a cache of German gold – for themselves.
DIRTY HARRY (1971) – Starring Clint Eastwood.
The original Dirty Harry film.
MAGNUM FORCE (1973) – starring Clint Eastwood and Hal Holbrook.
Dirty Harry is after a band of vigilante cops. Has the famous closing line “A man’s got to know his limitations.”
THE ENFORCER (1976) – starring Clint Eastwood and Tyne Daly.
Dirty Harry has a female partner as he hunts down a terr orist organization
THE OUTLAW JOSIE WALES (1976) – directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, costarring Sondra Locke. The violence of the Civil War turns a man into a renegade out for revenge.
THE GAUNTLET (1977) – directed by and costarring Clint Eastwood and costarring Sondra Locke.
Eastwood is a cop taking a prostitute to testify at a trial and there are powerful forces out to make sure that testimony never happens.
EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE (1978) – stars Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke.
A box office smash when released, Clint Eastwood in a pseudo-comedy costarring Clyde the orangutan.
BRONCO BILLY (1980) – directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. Costarring Sondra Locke.
A good film, but underrated because Eastwood was showing his serious side.
ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN (1980) – starring Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke.

HONKEYTONK MAN – (1982) – directed by and starring Clint Eastwood.
Very much underrated and shows Eastwood’s passion for music early in his directing career.
FIREFOX (1982) – directed by and starring Clint Eastwood.
Good performance by Eastwood, but the Cold War plot and crude graphics have really aged this one.
SUDDEN IMPACT (1983) – directed and starring Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke.
Locke stars as a crime victim after revenge in this Dirty Harry film.
CITY HEAT (1984) – starring Clint Eastwood
Burt Reynolds was nominated for a Raz zie for acting in this one.
