OnePlus Ace 7 Pro Puts a Cooling Fan's Vents in the Camera Island and Drops the Ultrawide
OnePlus launched the Ace 7 Pro in China with a built-in fan that breathes through a 'Storm Island' intake beside the cameras, a 200MP main camera and 3.5x periscope telephoto, and no ultrawide lens, while the cheaper Ace 7 keeps the ultrawide.

Phone makers usually hide their cooling. OnePlus put it where you look first. The Ace 7 Pro’s product page describes a “「双路冰河风冷系统」” (a dual-path “glacier” air-cooling system), an “「双路出风」架构” (dual-outlet design), and a “「风暴岛」进风口” (“Storm Island” air intake) built around a “全新空气动力学风扇” (new aerodynamic fan). The claimed payoff is “温度低 10 度,” or 10 degrees lower.
GSMArena’s launch report describes the layout as two intakes and two grilles, with the vents sitting on the camera island, which it calls unorthodox. The fan serves a fast screen: OnePlus lists a “185Hz 东方屏,” while GSMArena notes 185Hz only kicks in for select games, with the 6.78-inch LTPO panel running at up to 165Hz otherwise. OnePlus advertises “全局 165Hz 超高刷,” or 165Hz system-wide.
The rest of the spec sheet is big. OnePlus lists “第五代骁龙 8 至尊版” (Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5), a “9000mAh 冰川电池” (9,000mAh battery), “100W 超级闪充” charging and “IP66/68/69/69K” dust and water ratings. The camera bump holds a “2 亿超清主摄” (200MP main camera) and a “3.5 倍潜望长焦” (3.5x periscope telephoto). It doesn’t hold an ultrawide. OnePlus’s page never mentions one, and GSMArena attributes the omission to size constraints. That space is presumably where the airflow went.
The regular Ace 7 makes the trade explicit. It keeps a “112° 超广角镜头” (112-degree ultrawide) with an 8MP sensor instead of the telephoto, runs a “第五代骁龙 8 至尊版 V Series” chip, and uses the same fan system name. GSMArena reports its V Series chip has a GPU split into two slices and less dedicated memory, and that its fan drops the bi-directional airflow. GSMArena lists the Ace 7 Pro at CNY 4,799 (about $715) for 12GB and 256GB, and the Ace 7 at CNY 4,399 (about $655).
| Ace 7 Pro | Ace 7 | |
|---|---|---|
| Chip | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series |
| Second rear camera | 3.5x periscope telephoto | 8MP 112° ultrawide |
| Starting price (GSMArena) | CNY 4,799 | CNY 4,399 |
Both share the 9,000mAh battery, 100W charging, 185Hz/165Hz display and IP ratings, so those rows are cut.
What OnePlus didn’t say is a long list. Neither product page gives a price. Neither gives a fan noise figure or says what “10 degrees” is measured against. There is no word on a launch outside China; GSMArena notes that some believe the phone could return as a OnePlus 16R, which is speculation. And nobody has said what happens to those camera-island vents after a year in a pocket full of lint.
With moderate confidence: OnePlus is betting that heavy mobile gamers care more about steady frame rates and telephoto reach than about a wide lens, and the regular Ace 7 exists for everyone else. With lower confidence, expect other Chinese makers to answer with their own fans before the next gaming-phone cycle. The open question is durability. A sealed phone rated IP69K with moving parts and open vents is a new combination, and the long-term dust and lint story hasn’t been written yet.
